Contact Your State Senator Today
Mar. 7, 2006
Dear Advocates,
Our budget advocacy is moving from the House to the Senate.
Please call or e-mail your state senator now!
Please call or e-mail your state senator as soon as possible to ask your legislator to request a $7.5 million increase in the Massachusetts Cultural Council appropriation. In spite of rising state revenues, the state is facing across the board pressure on the budget because of rising health care costs and the potential loss of hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funds for programs ranging from education, transportation and social services. Governor Romney has responded by recommending a $2.4 million cut for the MCC.
We have to redouble our advocacy efforts to stave off this cut and to gain an increase for the MCC. The Legislature has long recognized the important role that arts and culture play in the Commonwealth and has been very supportive of the MCC. As the Legislature is considering the Governor’s proposed cut and aiming at sending a budget to the Governor this spring, it is important that Legislators hear from their constituents on programs and issues that are important.
Please send your e-mail and follow up with a phone call. Call the statehouse at 617-722-2000 and ask for your state senator. Also, it is very important that you enlist your friends, family and colleagues to send e-mails and make phone calls.
We are urging you to contact your senator while the Senate version of the budget is still in informal discussion.
Thank you for your support.
Dan Hunter
